Next up I met the last co-organizer, Nick Adams. Nick is deep into WordPress and will speak at WordCamp Rochester about volunteering in the global WordPress community.
Maryann Reissig
This is getting better and better! Along with Tricia and Sarah, I met Maryann Reissig. She is the lead organizer for WordCamp Rochester and works with WordPress in higher ed. She knows a lot about using WordPress multi-sites.
Sarah Rowe
Oh wow! When I met Tricia she introduced me to Sarah Rowe. Sarah is also speaking at WordCamp Rochester and is another co-organizer! Sarah is a freelance web designer and technical writer who enjoys training people to use WordPress.
My First WordCamp – Part 1
At 23 days old I attended my first WordCamp and I was hooked! There were plenty of other beginners, business owners, and website designers and developers. I appreciated the easy way people shared and answered questions. By the end of a day full of presentations, a hearty lunch, swag and the After Party I developed a picture of the Rochester WordPress community and in a word it was – welcoming.
Later I learned that since 2006, WordCamps have been connecting the WordPress community. And they happen all around the world! I was so excited that last year I told everyone, “This is sooo cool that I can spend a whole day with other people in Rochester who love WordPress!” And, at $20, the price is sooo right!
Tricia Isham
So when I met Michelle she introduced me to Tricia Isham. Tricia is also speaking at WordCamp Rochester and she is a co-organizer! Tricia is a freelancer who works with small businesses to get them online.
Michelle Ames
This is so cool! I just met one of the speakers for WordCamp! And it’s the person who first created me, Michelle Ames! She’s spoken at soooo many WordCamps and she is the founder of WordCamp Rochester. Michelle is going to speak to us about empowering clients to use their websites.
Brownie the Wapuu
Hi! I’m Brownie and I’m almost one year old. I was discovered by James Tryon, and inspired by Michelle Frechette Ames, another photography lover and local WordPress motivator, leader and gatherer, to attend my very first WordCamp Rochester last year. I wasn’t even a month old at the time. I’ve since been adopted as WordCamp Rochester’s mascot and cheerleader – I can’t wait to reconnect with everyone and make some new friends too!
I’m a member of the Wapuu. My first family member was born at an After Party some years back. One thing led to another and the first Wapuu was born – you can read all about my family origins at https://wapu.us/wapuu-history-origin/.
Look for lots more blog posts from me!

Call for Volunteers
We need volunteers on the day of WordCamp! What’s involved? You might help with set up in the early morning, clean up at the end of the day, run video recording in the classrooms, staffing the Happiness Bar, or helping any of those other random acts of kindness needed during an event. Call for Sponsors
As a sponsor of WordCamp Rochester, you’ll be exposed to a diverse group of people who come together to learn with and from each other. People who are tech savvy and people who are learning to use WordPress for the first time to grow their business or hobby. People who spend their days in front of a computer and people who spend their days with their customers. People like you. People not like you. You’ll get the opportunity to support and reach out to the WordPress community and let them know who you are. WordPressers are web designers, business owners, bloggers, students, and volunteers. We are members involved in every aspect of our community. Continue reading “Call for Sponsors” →
